Theft Prevention

 

  • Keep a record of all serial numbers, makes & models.  Many APPS are now available for smart phones and tables to help keep an accurate inventory of your personal belongings.

  • Keep guns locked in gun safes.

  • Activate or install tracing APPS for smart phones and tables.

  • Install motion sensor lights outside of your home. 

  • Use timers on lights when away from home for more than one day.

  • Utilize the Residential Security Check Program when away for home for vacation, or any other event that takes you away from home for more than one night.

  • Don't leave valuables in your cars.

  • Keep bicycles locked up when not in use.  Utilize the Bicycle Registration Program to help return your bicycle, in the event it is stolen and later recovered. 

  • Keep a record of all credit card contact information in the event that you need to call and cancel your cards that are lost or stolen.

  • Monitor your bank accounts and credit card accounts on a regular basis.

IF YOU NEED TO FILE A REPORT FOR LOST OR STOLEN PROPERTY OR ANY OTHER NON-EMERGENCY ISSUE:

Call the Kitty Hawk Police Department at: 252-261-3895 Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. til 5:00 p.m.  After hours call Dare Central Communications at: 252-473-3444

For Lost or Stolen Property the officer will need:

  • A full description of the property

  • Serial Number if available

  • Victim(s) full name, address, and contact number

  • Where and when the property was lost or stolen

  • Picture of the property if available 

Need to Report

A Crime Anonymously

If you see suspicious activity, report it.
